This utility will generate printable barcodes in the CODABAR (NW-7) format based on the information you provide. The authors hope that libraries and others will be able to print cheap disposable barcodes for, among other things, books on loan from another library.
Use this method if you know the number on the last barcode you already have. (In many cases, you can just scan that barcode.) We'll calculate the following barcode numbers for you.
Be CAREFUL to use the numerically last barcode (usually the bottom right sticker on the bottom sheet), because if you use an earlier number you will be generating duplicate barcodes.
If you know your prefix and what number to begin with, but you don't know the number of the last remaining barcode, use this method.
Barcodes-on-the-fly helper was released in three versions by its original author, Ben Ostrowsky <ostrowb@tblc.org>, a member of the Tampa Bay Library Consortium staff.
Version 0.4 is released in February 2005 by Greg Barniskis to update the barcode rendering algorithm to be compatible with the current version of the PDF::API2 module for creating the label pages. Some perldoc documentation was also added.
Source code and accessories are available here. This version should run on Windows or Unix/Linux systems with relatively current versions of Perl and the PDF::API2 module.
